Preparing For The Time Change This Weekend

Getting ready for the time change this weekend as clocks fall back an hour Saturday night? This one is the “good” one if any time change can be called good, because we get that extra hour of sleep. Most people aren’t too badly affected by this time change unless you’re borderline sleep deprived. It could push you into full fledged sleep deprivation.

Here’s how to prepare:

Try going to bed ten or fifteen minutes earlier every night this week leading up to the change.

Avoid caffeine late afternoon and evening and avoid alcohol.

Also avoid screens just before bed.

Make sleep a priority. (I know, easier said than done) I work an odd shift, getting up at 3am for the morning show and it’s something most of my coworkers just don’t understand. I have had to push back against meetings and events in the afternoon for years, as that’s when I try to get a twenty to forty five minute nap that lets me lead this crazy lifestyle.

Finally, here’s my most important tip for avoiding sleep deprivation – get up at the same time on the weekends! If you normally get up at 6:30 during the week, do the
same Saturday and Sunday. Your body’s time clock will thank you for it.
