A two vehicle accident has left one deceased and two injured over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, RCMP responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 12 near Aldersville.
A Chrysler sedan had collided with an oncoming Volkswagen after attempting to pass other vehicles.
The driver of the Volkswagen sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital via Lifeflight helicopter. the passenger had died on scene.
The driver and lone occupant of the Chrysler was also transported to hospital with injuries.
Highway 12 was closed late into the evening while a RCMP Collision Analyst examined the scene, reopening at 11 PM.
RCMP arrested a 24-year old Lunenburg County woman in relation to the collision and charged her with the following:
- Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm
- Criminal Negligence Causing Death
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death
The woman was released from custody the same day on conditions which include not occupying the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle and not being in the care and control of a motor vehicle.
She is expected to appear in Bridgewater court December 18.
An Unexpected Encounter
A local man was also arrested for an unrelated impaired driving charge at the Scene Saturday.
While on scene for the accident, RCMP members noticed a man approach the closed road in a car.
When police informed the man the road was closed, they noticed he was showing signs of impairment.
Police arrested the 85-year-old Aldersville man on scene, and also seized an open liquor bottle and a shotgun that was not transported properly.
He was taken to the Chester RCMP detachment for a breath test and was held in custody until he could be released to a family member.
The man will appear in Bridgewater provincial court on January 15, 2020 on charges of Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and Failure to Comply With a Breath Demand.
Further charges may be laid.
