Today Is Healthcare Foundations Day

Healthcare foundations play a key role in the health care sector. Today they are being celebrated for the contributions they make.

Healthcare Foundations day aims to raise awareness for the thousands of donors that contribute their time, money or resources to the 41 foundations around the province.

In the last five years, Nova Scotian foundations have made over $100 million in donations to various health organizations around the province.

Locally the contributions are also quite significant according to Alison Clements, a spokesperson for the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore.

” We’ve helped to fund things like our minimally invasive surgery suite, palliative care and in our 25 years history we have put $13 million back into health services.”

Clements also says she isn’t supervised by the figure released from the Nova Scotia Health Authority that 62 per cent of adults have made a contribution to a healthcare foundation in the past two years.

“If you think about it, people will make donations all the time whether it’s when they receive good service or around tax season people make lots of donations because they can help out their community and at some point, they will need some sort of health services.”

Healthcare Foundations Day also coincides with National Philanthropy Day, a day that makes a point of recognizing people who donate or volunteer with charitable organizations.
