The Real Battle of Christmas

When to decorate. That’s the true battle of Christmas. Every year there seems to be a battle over when is the time to start putting up the decorations.

Yes, it apparently makes you feel good to put up the decorations. And sometimes, there are actual reasons for getting a jump on the season.

A family in Texas ran afoul of their local homeowners association for putting up Christmas decorations too early. They can’t find anything in writing, but they started on November 1. Some might think that to be too early. In Canada, there is the ongoing debate as to whether or not it is right to start before or after Remembrance Day. But this family in Texas had their reasons for starting early.

They have a new baby on the way, who is due to arrive on Christmas Day. They also have two other children, and they didn’t want them to miss out on any of the fun of the season, so they thought it best to get a jump on Christmas, before other events started to take over their lives.

Then there was a letter from the homeowners association saying it was too early and the decorations have to come down. Instead, they put up more. Other neighbours who have no problem with early decorations backed them up by putting up their own decorations. The homeowners association probably isn’t going to win this one.

It’s too late now. Time to decorate is here. But really, you could have started any time. I won’t report you.
