Dumping Day Set For Tuesday Morning

Fishermen in LFAs 33 and 34 will finally hit the waters tomorrow morning.

Dumping Day was meant to be held today, but high winds caused officials to push the opening of Lobster season.

Conference calls between port reps, DFO, and Environment Canada were held this morning to determine if a Tuesday start would work.

Weather protocol states that winds of over 25 knots within a twelve hour window ( 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.) mean an automatic closure; other factors that affect the season opening include sea state and tides .

Fortunately fishing boats will be able to sail out and set traps starting at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning.
