Seriously. I couldn’t believe this.
It was hard enough to believe that Ernie Coombs, also known as Mr. Dressup, was part of the class of 2019 inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. When you think of Canadian television stars, he would probably spring to mind for a lot of us. Pretty much everybody knows him.
Now, technically, he was American, but he was a staple of Canadian TV. The same for another well loved children’s entertainer, Bob Homme. Now possibly not many know him by that name, but if you called him the Friendly Giant, most of us would be very familiar with him. And Rusty. And Gerome. And those cats, although I really don’t believe they played their own instruments.
And when you get right down to it, I always thought Finnegan was the bast actor on Mr. Dressup, but Friendly was head and shoulders above everyone else on his show. But that’s just me.
The fact is, Bob Homme was a part of most of our childhoods. The fact that he isn’t part of Canada’s Walk of Fame is just plain wrong.
I won’t get into the fact that there are quite a few people who have been inducted over the years that make me go, “who is that?”, or even, “how did they get in?”, but we won’t go there.
Friendly should be in there. He deserves it.
