Those heading to the city for the weekend may see some delays and detours along their route.
The old overpass connecting Highway 103 with highway 102 is being torn down this weekend to make way for the new 102/103 interchange.
Marla McInnis, communications for the Dept. of Transportation, said the overpass will close off parts of the highway for 48 hours.
“It starts at 10 pm tonight and goes through until Sunday at 10 pm,” she said.
“Motorists travelling northbound will be required to detour at exit 1D to Dunbrack Street, and those travelling Southbound will have to exit at exit 1A to hwy 103 West.”
She said the new interchange project is a symbol of changing times.
“This interchange is being built to sustain the growth we have experienced in the city and the increase in traffic volume that has happened since the interchange was first build in 1963,” she said.
Since it’s opening, the old overpass has seen about 30,000 vehicles per day heading onto the 103.
McInnis says the new interchange opened to travelers in October, and the project is set to wrap up at the end of the month.
