Dial-A-Ride Coordinator On MODL’s Radar

Things are moving forward with a potential new source of public transportation in Lunenburg County. The Municipality of Lunenburg is directing a committee to develop guidelines to employ a transportation coordinator. It’s all part of the movement to create a Dial-a-ride service for people with disabilities, who don’t own a vehicle or can’t drive. Deputy Mayor Eric Hustvedt says it’s hoped the service will be ready and fully approved in early 2015. He says “We’re looking at six months of a coordinator who would start in the fall and do some research and planning and see what might be possible in terms of setting up a system on a trial basis by next spring.” Four municipalities including Bridgewater, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are working together on the project. Capital costs are listed at just over $15,000 for this fiscal year between the four units.
