Edible Cannabis On Its Way, But Only A Small Variety At First

Cannabis edibles are expected to hit shelves next week, but only in small quantities.

While edibles, extracts and topicals have been legal since Oct. 17, Monday marked the first day NSLC were able to send purchase orders to producers.

Beverly Ware, communications for NSLC, said they are expecting to see the first shipments become available by Dec. 23, but there will only be a limited selection.

“We won’t have baked goods available at the moment or topicals, which are the creams you would use,” she said.

“But we are hopeful that we will have a small collection of edibles and extracts.”

Ware said the roll-out of products will be very slow, as producers need time to ensure their products meet the strict guidelines and regulations set by Health Canada.

“The licensed producers, they’ve had a lot of work to do in a very short period of time to get ready,” she said.

“Because of that, it does mean it is going to take at least a number of months before we see a growing selection of products.”

She says there is no estimated date as to when everything will be available, but she remains hopeful a small supply of products will be in stock before Christmas.

Ware also says online ordering for edibles will not be available until Jan. 6.
