Local Museum To See New Renovations In Early 2020

The DesBrisay Museum’s interior will look a little different in the new year.

The museum will be closing for a week in January to remove several interior walls to expand their exhibit and programming space.

Lynette de Montreuil, museum director, said the project is a direct response to the recent attendance increase the museum has seen over the last year.

“Last year we have several events that saw over 300 people,” she said.

“The way that our space currently functions, it doesn’t allow the best flow. Taking down these walls is just going to allow for more breathing space in the museum.”

De Montreuil said they will be removing 50 feet of walls which will be replaced by four rolling, movable walls to still allow for exhibit display areas while providing more space while needed.

She also said it was necessary to do the renovations at the beginning of the year, as their programming schedule would have delayed it for another year.

The project will begin on January 13th, and will see assistance from GE Trucking, Level Up Construction and the NSCC Heritage Carpentry Program.

De Montreuil says they are accepting donations – both monetary and material donations – from anyone interested in supporting the renovations to the museum.

Work is expected to wrap up within the same week it begins, and the museum is set to re-open on Jan. 18th.
