Who’s Watching Who?

Technology is wonderful. The more they come up with ways to keep us safe, the more others seem to find ways around it.

There have been news reports popping up about a new scam involving security cameras. Apparently what happens is, you are contacted by someone who claims to have video footage of you doing things you probably don’t want others to see you doing, all of this recorded using your own security cameras.

I can see this could work… if you put cameras in the wrong places. Most people would put cameras near entryways or in high traffic areas. Meaning the idea of someone having compromising video of you is pretty unlikely. Unless you are doing things you shouldn’t on your front porch in full view of your doorbell cam.

But cameras are everywhere these days. I suppose it is entirely possible to panic people into thinking they may have had their privacy invaded and to extort money from them.

Although really, this sort of extortion scheme only works if you let it. I can’t help but think in my case I’m starting to get to an age where I would just be happy to have something like this to brag about. Although because of that, it’s highly unlikely that anyone else would be interested in such pictures.

But you might want to be careful where you put those security cameras. They might not be that secure.
