Move Over

It was one of those stories that has a serious message, but is still likely to make you laugh. No matter how big your wiener, you still have to move over.

The legendary Weinermobile, promotional vehicle for Oscar Meyer, was given a verbal warning for failing to follow the Move Over law in Wisconsin.

It’s one of those laws that can get a lot of people. We have a very similar one in Nova Scotia. If you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road with lights flashing, you must slow down and, if possible, move to the other lane.

It makes perfect sense. The people driving these emergency vehicles are doing their best to keep us safe. Showing them a bit of courtesy by not trying to run them over is a pretty small thing to ask.

Although driving a twenty-four foot hotdog, you can see how that might not be as easy as it seems. Braking would not be as easy as a regular vehicle, and pulling over to the other lane could also present some challenges on winter roads.

But this is something we should all keep in mind, whether we drive a compact or an oversize wiener. When you see flashing lights, be prepared to slow down and move over.
