I like football. Not everyone in my house feels the same, so I don’t always get to watch every game.
The Superbowl is different. There’s always the ads.
I know. Not everyone gets the ads. In fact, most people don’t. Some can actually watch the American feed and will choose to, because the ads are the part that some people in the family actually want to see. Those people would be the non-football watching types. It’s the entertainment value the ads bring to the game that they are interested in.
Some have to look them up online, but a lot of people do. A large number of these ads are really horrible from an advertising standpoint. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve really enjoyed a commercial. but had no idea of the product being promoted. But that’s what happens during the big game. The entertainment value seems to be the important thing.
I had my favourites this year. The Doritos dance off was great. (I had no idea Sam Elliott’s mustache could do that.) The Cheeto fingers ad with M.C. Hammer was also pretty good. But I think my favourite was the Jason Mamoa mortgage commercial. Not only entertaining, but just creepy on a whole new level. I like that.
