I’m not sure how this happened. I used to love the Oscars. By now I would have seen a lot of the nominated films and made up my mind, ready to argue with the academy about why they chose the wrong winner. Or maybe the right winner. Or I would watch to find out what I may have missed and see if there were movies I really needed to catch up on.
The last few years, I find I just don’t care.
In some ways, I suspect it’s me. As I get older there is less that appeals to me. In some ways, I am just no longer the audience they are trying to appeal to, so that makes sense.
The movies also have to shoulder some of the blame. It just seems to be an endless stream of sequels, remakes and the same, or similar, story lines. Sorry. Been there, done that, bought the popcorn.
So I may or may not watch the Oscars this weekend. Maybe I’d be better off just spending time watching a good movie. Any suggestions?
