Forestry contractors and woodlot owners can begin applying for additional roadwork and silviculture next week.
The province has dedicated $7 million to assisting contractors and forestry businesses to stay afloat while the industry transitions since the Northern Pulp closure.
Of the $7 million, $3.5 million will be used for the Enhanced Private Woodland Silviculture program in Western and Central regions, $2.5 million for crown land silviculture and roadwork, and $1 million for the Private Roads program.
Iain Rankin, minister of lands and forestry, says the funding is just another step in the governments promise to help keep skilled workers in Nova Scotia and stabilize the industry.
Applications open up on Feb. 14th, and details on the application processes for private woodland roads will be available on the Forest Nova Scotia website, and for private land silviculture on the Association for Sustainable Forestry website.
