Health Services Asking For ‘Gift From The Heart’ For Valentine’s Day

The tenth annual ‘Gift From the Heart’ Radiothon is set to air Valentine’s Day at the South Shore Regional Hospital and organizers are feeling positive they will meet their goal.

Alison Clements, Development Officer for the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore said $150,000 is needed to buy and install 25 ceiling lifts at $6,000 a piece.

The lifts, which will replace cumbersome floor models, will go a long way to make things easier for patients and staff and the public understands the importance of them said Clements.

“The community is very excited because they’ve all known somebody who’s been in for a surgery or had a stroke or has limited mobility and this will make it so much easier,” said Clements.

“We are very excited to bring the lifts to the South Shore Regional Hospital and to the public. They help to bring that mobility back and that’s not only good for their physical health, but for their mental health too because nobody wants to be stuck in a bed.”

Over nine years the Radiothon has raised over $900,000 to support important projects such as ventilators for the Intensive Care Unit, ultrasound machines for diagnostic imaging, the Maternal Child Unit and the Journey Room, a meeting place for cancer patients and their families.

The Radiothon will air live from the South Shore Regional Hospital on Friday, February 14th, and more information on how to make a donation or get involved can be found here.
