Thankfully, We’re Not Good At Earthquakes

There was an earthquake last night. In Nova Scotia. Actually, in some parts of Dartmouth to narrow it down a bit more. But unless you were in the exact neighbourhood, you probably didn’t notice.

That’s not a bad thing. The earth is prone to heaving and shaking at times. It doesn’t happen around here very often, at least not that most of us know.

In this case, there was a bang and a bit of shaking, Emergency crews went and checked things out, but couldn’t find anything. If you weren’t sitting pretty much right on top of it, you probably didn’t even know it happened.

At around 8:40 last night, a 2.6 magnitude earthquake struck. It was enough to make people wonder what was going on, but not enough for anyone to think they were suddenly in an earthquake zone.

We’ve had a few little earthquakes before. There have been a few in the Digby area and around parts of the Bay of Fundy. There was even one in Bridgewater in 2007.

That one made me wonder. An earthquake? In Bridgewater? But reading further I noticed that although it was confirmed by a seismologist there were zero reports from the public.

I don’t know about you, but that’s how I like my earthquakes. Not knowing that they actually are earthquakes is just fine by me.
