Local Grocery Stores Holding Daily Shopping Hour For Seniors

With seniors being among the most severely affected by Covid-19, many local businesses are designating a bit of time for them to shop in peace.

Grocers across the South Shore have adopted the Seniors Hour policy, allowing elderly shoppers to pick up goods and supplies outside of normal shopping hours.

Andrew Langille, owner and operator of Fresh Cuts in Bridgewater said they’ve started opening their store an hour earlier this week specifically for seniors.

“We just thought it would be good, where they are probably the most vulnerable people in our society, to give them the opportunity to come in with less congestion and less people to shop,” he said.

Langille said they intend to keep the extended hour opening going as long as needed.

The added hour allows seniors to shop with little worry of infection, and keeps them at their own pace without the worry of dealing with sold out stock.

“Our store is definitely better stocked earlier in the morning than it is later in the day, depending on the level of business,” said Langille.

“Especially as of lately, it should give them more than ample opportunity to get the product they need.”

He also said while some shelves do empty out by the end of the day, there is no shortage of products and stock is continuing to arrive at the store.

Many other businesses around the South Shore are also adopting the senior’s hour policy, including Superstore, No Frills, Gow’s Home Hardware, Nick’s Independent and others.
