UPDATED: Michelin Tires to Scale Back Production For Two Weeks Due to COVID-19

Breaking news in Nova Scotia – the province’s largest private sector employer will be scaling back production due to Covid-19.

Michelin Tires, who operate facilities in Granton, Waterville and Bridgewater, will be taking this step as part of a North American Closure Plan.

The details have not been finalized yet, said Michelin Spokesperson Phil Watson.

“The situation continues to evolve quickly but we expect to implement a plan in Nova Scotia next week.”

In a press release, Michelin says “We remain focused on the health and well-being of its employees and communities, and the company is developing plans and revising policies to mitigate the financial impacts of this temporary shutdown on its employees”

Michelin says production affected does not include “vital and critical tires for the country’s economic continuity,” but what that entails has yet to be confirmed.

Michelin North America has more than 21,400 employees, with over 3,500 of those working in Nova Scotia.
