If you or the kids are bored, now is the time to get into online gaming. But there’s a confusing set of acronyms for online games so let’s decypher them:
For budget conscious folks, F2P is what to look for. It means Free To Play. Generally it means that you can download and play the game for free. There may be extra things to spend your money on, but most can be skipped. If the extra’s are simply cosmetic things that don’t affect the gameplay fair enough. If the game requires you to pay extra for something to move ahead, then it’s P2W (Pay to Win) Some games allow you to “grind” (spend a long time travelling and gathering items in game) to move ahead. It takes longer than paying for levelling up, but these days when you’re looking for something to occupy your time, then grind away!
There are MMO’s, MMORPG’s, and MOBA’s. MMOs are massively multiplayer online. MMORPG’s are the role playing game equivalent. MOBA’s are multiplayer online battle arena.
A google search will easily give you the top free online games for 2020. Many are found on Steam under Free To Play, but just as many have their own websites. Most are good for hundreds of hours of playing, but be aware that behaviorists and psychologists have been involved in making the games as addictive as possible, and they aren’t operating a charity. They are going to tempt you to spend money whenever they can. Avoid the temptation to spend. If you’re off school or work, most games will let you grind to a conclusion, so why spend money to speed up your game?
