The past week or so, I’ve been trying to learn to be a germaphobe – someone who fears germs, thanks to the coronavirus. My wife Karen has made me take plastic gloves with me everywhere and use Lysol wipes on everything. Only problem is the Lysol wipes are scented – something called Spring Waterfall and it affects me… the only waterfall happening is my streaming eyes and sinuses.
But, since we didn’t have any alcohol based hand sanitizer you go with what you have. Monday morning I got in the car to head to the radio station and went to pull out a Lysol wipe but the below freezing temperatures had turned my container of Lysol wipes into a Lysol-sicle – it was frozen solid. So I did the one handed door opening to the radio station, made sure not to touch my face and headed into the studio to use one of the Lysol wipes the company keeps there.
Unfortunately our weekender was very fastidious about wiping down the control board and phones, so I discovered an empty container of wipes. Still, making sure I didn’t touch my face I headed to the kitchen to wash my hands. Then I stole some wipes from our country station and wiped down the board and phones while my eyes streamed and my nose ran.
Later when I was headed home, the Lysol-sicle in the car was still frozen solid so I put it on my dash above my defroster vents and put the heat on high. Again I made sure not to touch my face and when I got home I gave the Lysol container a shake. Thunk Thunk. Still a chunk of frozen Lysol wipes in there. So I brought them in the house to let them melt.
This germaphobe thing is hard! Any longtime germaphobes out there got any tips for me?
