The Delay For Fishing

A lot of people are upset about the fact that the sport fishing season was pushed back. They point out, quite correctly, that fishing is not a group activity. You don’t want groups of people around when you’re fishing. If anything, you want no one around.

There can be any number of reasons for that. Maybe you have a secret bait combination you don’t want others to see. Maybe it’s that secret spot you don’t want others to know about. Or maybe it’s the fact that you can toss your bait into the water and then ignore it, and everything else around you if you really want to.

For whatever reason, the province has decided to delay the start of the sport fishing season. I’ll be honest, I’d much rather be out there fishing. But there could be an upside.

With the extra month before we start throwing food at them, maybe the fish will just be extra hungry. Maybe they’ll grow that much more. Maybe a month without people waving hooks at them will make them all the more agreeable.

In any case, I can wait. I may not want to, and I probably won’t stay away from some of my favourite fishing spots, just because it’s a great way to social distance.

This is not something I understand, but at the same time, if it’s good for me and maybe even good for the fish, I guess I can do it.
