My Weekend Bird List

I made my list. Thankfully, the rain took a break over the weekend so I managed to get to the backyard. Although I have a feeling I might see more birds if I was up earlier. At least, it seems noisier early in the morning.

Really, I think I was expecting more. I know I have seen other birds around the back yard at times, I only listed what I saw over the weekend. I also didn`t list anything I saw while driving. Mostly because there are a lot of “what the heck was that?” moments when driving, where I can’t quite figure out what something was while it zipped in front of me.

So here’s my list:

crows

starlings

black capped chickadees

white breasted nuthatch

sparrows

blue jay

cardinals

Only seven species. I think. There may have been more than one type of sparrow. I’m not good with sparrows. There are about a dozen different types of sparrow and most of them are fairly close in appearance. I could say it was a song sparrow, since it was singing quite loudly, but I think that’s just a sparrow thing in general.

The cardinal I could hear while I was outside, but didn’t see him. I was actually washing the dishes, looked out the window, and there were a pair of cardinals hopping around the lawn. The bright red makes it hard to miss them. At least the males.

Like I say, I was expecting to see a few others, but they didn’t show up while I was out there. I’ll keep watching and keep you up to date.
