No one is hoarding seeds , and the supply of seeds is great, but the seed companies have had double the usual number of orders in the last month and are having trouble keeping up with filling orders. Remember, seeds have to be weighed, packaged and sent to stores and most of the seed companies didn’t have enough pre-packaged seeds to keep up with the demand.
Burpee Seeds stopped orders for the past week and had to hire more employees to meet the demand but are expected to start taking new orders today.
It would seem North Americans are worried about food security and are putting in vegetable gardens. Planting and caring for veggies in a garden is also a great way to de-stress during a quarantine.
Early planting seeds like peas and lettuce are popular right now, as well as onion sets.
If you’re a veteran veggie gardener who waits too long to get this season’s seeds, you might have to be less particular about the brand or type of seed you end up planting this season.
