Americans Have Discovered A Canadian Bread Recipe – Peanut Butter Bread

Reddit on the internet has been caught up with a no yeast peanut butter bread recipe that is an old Canadian recipe from the 1930’s.

You may have seen this cookbook in your grandmother’s kitchen – Five Roses: A Guide to Good Cooking, edited by Elizabeth Driver. It was put out by the Canadian Five Roses Flour Company back in 1932 in the depths of the Great Depression.

Peanut Butter bread needs NO YEAST! Just 6 ingredients – 2 cups all-purpose flour; 1/4 cups sugar, 4 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 1/3 cups milk, 1/2 cup peanut butter

Preheat oven to 325F, mix dry ingredients, then mix in well the milk and peanut butter. In a greased pan, bake for 55 minutes or when a toothpick comes out clean.

Any peanut butter works – smooth , creamy, chunky and you can add more than the half cup if you prefer.

If you’ve never baked bread before but have made cookies you can do this!
