How I’m Dealing With Everything

After the devastating news of the horrific event which happened in our province Sunday on top of staying the blazes home here’s how I’m dealing with it all.

I’m concentrating on the one good news story in our family this week – our black Lab Misty. She’s around 10 years old and we got her as a rescue several years ago. I’m pretty sure she had a very hard life before she came to our home.

About two years ago she had the first of “dog strokes”, often called shaky dog syndrome and it slowed her down but she slowly progressed out of it until her second stroke. She also had a large tumor growing on her shoulder. The vet didn’t think in her condition that surgery was an option, so for the last year we watched this tumor grow daily until it was almost the size of her head.

Finally things came to a head two weeks ago when it became infected, however the vet felt that surgery was needed in spite of the poor prognosis.

Misty came through the lengthy operation with flying colors! Her balance was off because of the missing 6 pound tumor on her side and she was very sore, but she’s doing well and we can see improvements in her quality of life every day.

Misty is an amazing dog who puts up with three cats by generally ignoring them. However one of the cats seems to have decided that she’s Misty’s mom and has been cuddling up to poor Misty ever since she came home from the vet. It’s hilarious to watch Mary give the dog little kisses while Misty just looks at us for help.

We’re hopeful that Misty the black lab has many more years of a good life with us. And that’s how I’m dealing with things this week.
