Crisis Support Lines Made Available In Wake Of Shooting

Morneau Sheppel has announced that in the wake of the weekend’s tragic shooting in Nova Scotia that claimed 17 lives they have set up a 24/7 bilingual crisis support line.

According to a company release, a crisis or traumatic event can trigger overwhelming emotional responses.

Morneau Shepell’s national 24/7 crisis support line offers professional emotional support to anyone in crisis. When calling the crisis line, individuals receive crisis counselling support and/or referral to community resources. Anyone affected by the incident in Portapique can reach the free crisis support line at 1-844-751-2133.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the victims, their loved ones and all those affected by this tragic event, and our hearts are with the entire Portapique community,” said Stephen Liptrap, president and chief executive officer. “As such, our free 24/7 bilingual crisis hotline is now open, and we encourage anyone seeking support to reach out.”

The provincial government is also reminding people that their Mental Health Provincial Crisis Line is also available 24/7 at this time by calling 1-888-429-8167.

Kids Help Phone also sent out a tweet saying their staff are equipped to help both children and adults in this trying time by calling 1-800-668-6868.

Youth seeking help can also text TALK to 686868 and adults can text WELLNESS to 741741.
