The South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary has stepped up to provide some much-needed equipment for the hospital.
Robert Zwicker, hospital administrator, asked the auxiliary if they could help with some essential equipment. They were all to happy to purchase 33 new stethoscopes and a laryngoscope at a cost of $11,723.85, and two wall-mounted monitors for critical care at a cost of $66,845.00. These purchases are part of the plan to handle a surge of COVID-19 patients.
Alison Reynolds, Auxiliary President, says there are approximately 90 volunteers who work in three funding arms ; the Shoreline Gallery (art), hospital gift shop and The Daisy (clothes and household items).
She said those operations rely on community support and the hard work of all its volunteers to raise funds.
“When we disperse the funds our goal is to support the hospital and staff and the health and well-being of the community,” she said.
Reynolds says they have always tried to focus on buying items not funded by the health authority and are very careful not to make duplicate purchases or get things that the hospital could acquire in other ways. The new acquisitions were much appreciated by staff.
“This is a terrible time for the hospital staff and I think they really appreciate the support,” she said.
