State of Emergency Extended in Nova Scotia

The office of Premier Stephen McNeil announced today that the province is extending the state of emergency for another two weeks.

The Emergency Management Act which establishes the rules on states of emergency requires the province to either terminate or extend the order every 14 days.

The new state of Emergency order comes into effect at noon Sunday, May 3 and runs until Sunday, May 17.

The Emergency Management Act makes it an offence to inflate the price of essential items and services in times of an emergency. Essential items and services can include things like food, water, clothing, essential equipment and medical supplies.

During a state of emergency, citizens need to follow the instruction given by authorities. They also need to obey any orders given by the Government of Nova Scotia or a municipality.
