A listener (and new teacher) Ashley Beck reminded me that it’s Teacher Appreciation Week (thanks for that Ashley!) and in these times of kids being at home with parents who may also be working from home and trying to help their children learn at the same time, I’m betting a lot of us have a whole new appreciation for teachers.
A recent meme on social media said, ” It takes a village to raise a child, it takes a distillery to home school them.”
It amazes me that no matter how many years go by, I still remember my favourite teachers fondly. Their faces and the impact they had on my life have not dimmed in the slightest.
Most were great, there were a couple of duds but strangely enough I can’t remember the names of the duds. Is that karma?
I remember Mrs Swain my primary teacher, Miss Purcell in Grade 5 who I’ve written about before in a previous blog or two, Mr Hallett who tricked us into loving history in Grade 9, Sister Regan who taught me English lit for a couple of years in Grades 10 and 11 and too many more to mention here.
So, with Teacher Appreciation Week upon us, tell me about the teacher who made a big difference in your life. It’s the least we can do.
