Concerts, The Big Ex And Other Large Gatherings Last To Return?

With the news this week that the Big EX won’t be taking place this summer, it got me to thinking about the big gatherings from years gone by.

I fear that the last thing to come back will be rock concerts and festivals, basically any large gathering of people is not going to happen until there is a vaccine for Covid-19

It got me thinking of large events I’ve been a part of over the years. My most memorable concert in Nova Scotia was Tina Turner at the Metro Centre. It was truly a spectacle!

But my favourite concert of all time was one that I wasn’t expecting to be that great. It was the late seventies in Toronto, and the Beach Boys were playing outdoors at the CNE. All the members were still alive and playing together in the band, except for the leader – Brian Wilson, who hadn’t played live for years. In my mind, it just wasn’t the Beach Boys without Brian.

Imagine my surprise when the band came out and I noticed that the piano player looked like Brian Wilson. It was the man himself.

The next hour and a half went by far too quickly. I wanted it to last all evening. It really was historical.

Got a favourite concert or festival?
