Woman Saved Due To RCMP Member’s Heroic Swim

The quick action from first respondents is being applauded after a woman was saved from waters in Queens County.

On Sunday morning, RCMP responded to a call for a pickup truck that had driven off HWY 8 into the Mersey River near Milton.

Two occupants had gone into the water with the truck. The driver, a 65-year-old man, was able to swim to shore. However, the 59-year-old female passenger was unable to swim and was struggling to stay afloat.

As emergency workers arrived, the condition of the woman began worsening due to the cold waters.

Acting quickly, an RCMP member tied a rope around his waist, secured it to the shore and swam out on a paddle board found at a nearby house to rescue the passenger. Both were pulled safely to shore by other first responders.

Both the driver and passenger were transported to hospital with the woman suffering non-life threatening injuries. No other information on the accident has been released.
