Webinar Gives Introduction To Hiking

Now that restrictions have eased many people are itching for outdoor adventure.

With that in mind Hike Nova Scotia is, for the first time, offering an Introduction to Hiking webinar for new and novice hikers.

Hiking is a great way to get out, explore and get some exercise said life-long hiking enthusiast Janet Barlow, Executive Director for Hike NS.

“People have been starved for the outdoors and with a lot of the restrictions on parks and trails lifted people can get out there. People are hiking curious and we want to make sure they have the basic know-how so they can have a good hike, a safe hike.”

Ideally an in-person workshop would be held and that is something planned for the future, however rules on gathering meant organizers had to take a different approach.

“This has been on our to do list and the pandemic has given us the space and opportunity to create it. Lots of places are doing things virtually so we thought we’d give it a try,” said Barlow.

It was a gamble that has paid off-30 people have already registered for the webinar and more are expected. Registration is free for members, and for a $20 fee non-members will also receive a one-year membership.

Those interested must register by May 27 for the May 28 session. The webinar runs for an hour and a half and is followed by a question period.
