A Strange Tale Of Bananas And Bridges

My greatest odd fears start with “B”. Bananas and Bridges.

To this day, it’s a rare thing for me to eat a banana. I love banana flavour. I’ll eat banana bread, banana Life Savers and banana pudding, But a real banana? Rarely.

It’s the texture that partly freaks me out. Also those strings on ripe bananas. And the butt end of the banana. And the stem. Alright, pretty much the entire fruit. I do like banana slices on my granola or oatmeal though.

Having grown up in HRM, I’ve always had an irrational fear of walking or driving across bridges, The Macdonald and the Mackay are too long to hold your breath the entire trip across but I’ve tried. I get the same feeling in my stomach as when you eat super rich frosting. I will make any excuse for driving to Dartmouth through Bedford and the Magazine Hill rather than taking either bridge.

Even small one lane country bridges make me tense, but you’re over them in seconds so I don’t think much about them.

Bridgewater’s old bridge is a nightmare to me, as I remember walking across it several times and thought I was going to pass out.

However, I’ve always been told that the best way to overcome your fears is to meet them head on.

So if you see a guy eating a banana walking across the Old Bridge in the next few weeks. That’s me.

So what strange or weird phobias do you have?
