School’s Out For Summer

The 2019-2020 school year has been anything but normal.

It ends for students in the South Shore Regional Centre For Education June 5. Which left the issue of getting students belongings returned, while maintaining social distancing protocols introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paul Ash, Regional Executive Director for the SSRCE, said after some discussion it was determined the best way to do this was to allow one family member, by appointment only, to collect student items starting June 5. This plan is being implemented at all 24 schools in the board.

It is a sad end to the year for both staff and students he said.

“Teachers develop a close relationship with their students and we would much prefer our traditional closing to the year where people get the opportunity to say goodbye to their children.”

With things slowly re-opening staff hope that things will have returned to normal by the fall allowing for some
