Riverfest latest Casualty of COVID-19 Pandemic

A popular South Shore live-music festival is the latest casualty of the pandemic.

Riverfest, which got its start in 2004, was slated for August 21/22 at Fox Mountain Camping Park in Aylesford. In the cost of the weekend pass camping is included, which made it an event that families enjoyed coming back to every year.

Jonathan Crouse, Country 100.7 announcer and President-Riverfest Co-op Limited said he understands why it is necessary but there will be many people saddened by the decision.

“The patrons that come out to celebrate music with us-we don’t get to see them for another year so it’s like this family reunion that’s not going to happen,” he said.

Looking back at the first year the event was held Crouse says they had no idea how big Riverfest would become.

“It was a small representation of what Riverfest became and has been over the past ten years.”

The festival was nominated for Music Event Of The Year by Music Nova Scotia in 2006 and over the years has seen many talented acts on its stage including Helix, Haywire, Lee Aaron, The Northern Pikes, Air Traffic Control, Short Notice and The Stanfields to name a few.

“A lot of the acts that started on our stage went on to do great things. We offer them that first stage when maybe they are aren’t quite big enough or known enough to get hired at other events. We give them that stage time to show their stuff,” said Crouse.
