Inclusive Play Park Fundraising Faces Obstacle

The Queen’s County Inclusive Play Park has reached a hurdle in its fundraising efforts.

Debbie Wamboldt, from Milton, is part of the play park project committee. She said that the budget for the play park is $450,000 and they are now only $150,000 away from meeting that goal. However due to the pandemic it is not possible to apply for grants at this time.

“We had hoped to write one more grant and then be building so we were kind of devastated by that,” she said.

The project has already received two large grants in the amount of $100, 000 from the Recreation Facility Development Fund and $60,000 from the Enabling Accessibility Fund.

The Region of Queen’s has donated 1,300 square feet of space in Liverpool for the Queens County Universal Design Inclusive Play Park. The park design will follow the principals of universal design and be fully accessible to everyone.

Wamboldt said that they will now be looking at other ways to raise the funds, including a GoFundMe they have set up here.

“We have to do something other than look for grants, we have to look to our community help us out,” she said.
