Pine Grove Park in Milton has long been one of my favourite spots.
It’s not just the big old pine trees, which are lovely and, more importantly at the moment, shady. You can almost believe you are on a walk through the woods, even though you are only a short stroll from downtown Liverpool.
But this time of year it can be pretty spectacular. The rhododendrons are in bloom. The blooms are starting to fall on some, but there are still plenty to see. Lots of different varieties and colours that, honestly, make me a bit jealous.
I have planted more than just a few rhododendrons. At last count I believe I have about sixteen of them in various places around what is really a fairly small piece of property. Some of them are fairly recent, but others have been around for a few years. While a couple have grown to a fairly impressive size, none are like the ones in the park.
There are bigger ones around, I’m sure, but I like the park. There are new ones to be seen almost around every turn.
There are a lot of nice spots for a walk around our area. This one, at this time of year in particular is one of my favourites.
