ACOA Funding Benefits Local Tourism Projects

New federal funding is helping some Tri-County communities boost their tourism appeal.

ACOA delivered just over $140,000 towards the Town of Lockeport’s upgrades of the Trestle Trail.

Lockeport mayor George Harding says the money went towards repairs needed to open the trail, which had closed a year ago due to damage from storm surges.

“The armourstone now has significantly improved, the challenge is that of sea level rise or storm surges,” he said. “So it gives us some confidence that the usual kinds of storm won’t be having the impact that they would have have previously.”

He says the project in total cost more than $200,000 in total.

Other Tri-County initiatives receiving funding include nearly $60,000 to upgrade the Meteghan Marina, and $80,000 to YASTA toward improving tourism businesses’ online presence and e-commerce capabilities.
