NS Auditor General Report Critical Of Education and Infrastructure Plans

Nova Scotia’s Auditor General has issued his November report.

Michael Pickup says there is a lack of coordination between school boards and the Department of Education around decisions to close down schools or build new ones.

“Often the school boards have to make they’re decisions without knowing what the final decisions from the department will be.”

Pickup is also concerned government hasn’t made a department responsible for critical infrastructure.

He says there needs to be a plan in place to protect infrastructure when natural disasters happen in the future.

“The government signed on to a national strategy on critical infrastructure and it has no plan in place as to how it’s going to make the commitments that it made under there.”

As well, Pickup says government called increasing accessibility and affordability of childcare an area of focus, but still haven’t explained how they would make improvements.
