I thought I was doing something different over the weekend. Oh, I knew there would be a few people who did it, but it seemed like a fair number had the same idea.
A rainy weekend seemed like the perfect time to whip up a batch of hodge podge.
I love hodge podge. There was a time, in my younger years when trying to get me to eat what is essentially vegetable chowder would not have happened. You might get a little in me, but it’s not something I would be looking forward to. These days… well… best just stay out of my way. Getting between me and a feed of hodge podge could get one or both of us injured.
Somewhere along the line, my dislike has turned into a craving. Hodge podge is one of those things I need at least once every year. Like that first feed of lobster at the start of the season. It has to happen.
So I gathered all the ingredients and started building my masterpiece. I thought I was ahead of the game. I thought maybe I was way ahead of others in having gathered all those fresh veggies and drowning them in cream.
Then I happened to look on social media and it seemed like everyone was doing the same thing. I guess great minds do think alike.
So I have had my hodge podge. I will probably have more, but it just isn’t the same desperate need driving me.
But I do like it. And if you’re building one yourself. don’t forget. Make lots. It’s always better the second day.
Why is that?
