Are You A Night Owl Or An Early Bird?

That’s the question. If it weren’t for kids, job, dogs, cats or other responsibilities would you be a night owl or an early bird?

I spent over half my life as a night owl. For years, I didn’t own an alarm clock because I worked the afternoon shift in the city, would party or stay up well past midnight most of the time and sleep until I woke up, and then go into work.

To say that transitioning to the early morning shift was a shock to my system was an understatement. But I decided that if I was going to do this shift I may as well “own” it. So I get up every morning at 3am, and slowly wake up to a coffee as I read the news online from overnight. After an hour of waking up, I head into the shower and then to work.

Unfortunately the byproduct is that the latest I can sleep in on the weekends is 4am. My body clock just can’t let me sleep any longer. Even on vacation it takes a good five days before I start sleeping in until 6am or later.

So, am I an early bird or a night owl? I had to give that a lot of thought, but I think the truth of the matter is that deep down I’m a night owl. I like the peace and quiet of the late nights. It’s the job that makes me an early bird.

So, if it weren’t for kids, pets or job, are you an early bird or a night owl?
