The Lunenburg & District Pool is open for the season, the only public pool in the area to do so.
Pool manager Rachel Holt says it almost didn’t happen.
“We were always planning on getting it ready for a possible opening, because we just didn’t know what COVID-19 was going to entail for us specifically,” she said.
“For a long time it really didn’t look like we would have the opportunity to open.”
Holt says getting things cleaned up and ready for the public was a good incentive, and when the guidelines were released they decided to go ahead.
“We are here for the community and we want to be a place where kids can come swimming when so many things are different for them too.”
There are some changes to keep with current guidelines including maximum capacity numbers. 40 people total are allowed in the water and on the pool deck at one time, and 2-3 people are allowed in the swim lanes at one time.
People are asked to call ahead to reserve swim lanes.
Bathrooms are open but due to the difficulties in keeping them adequately sanitized change rooms are closed. People are asked to come already in their bathing suits and shower and change at home after swimming.
“We realize this is inconvenient but we can’t monitor people in the change rooms or clean the rooms all the time so we decided to keep them closed,” said Holt.
Next week private swim lessons will begin with one difference; instructors will not be allowed in the water with students. If a child is too young to swim on their own one person they have bubbled with is allowed in the water with them, says Holt.
You can call the pool at 902-634-4499 for more information or to reserve a swim lane.
