Best Way To Stay Cool?

Today (Wednesday) is probably the last “heat warning” day of the summer. Sure, we’ll have hot, sunny days for the rest of this month and next, but I would bet that we won’t see anything like the mid-30’s Humidex values until next year.

But don’t take my word for it. I’m the guy who questioned why you would ever need air conditioning in coastal Nova Scotia. Now I’m looking into a heat pump for the house and air conditioning on my next vehicle.

At home, I’ve been staying cool by having cold showers and when I’m working outside in the yard the garden hose is never far away.

But yesterday, I found a rather expensive way to cool off. I went shopping. I needed some automotive parts and service and got to enjoy the air conditioning of the store for a couple of hours.

I drove home and later that afternoon after suffering from the heat decided it was time to buy my painting supplies. So back to the hardware store where I got to spend another couple of cool, air conditioned hours as they color scanned a siding sample I’d brought along, and then it took awhile to tint and mix 5 gallons of paint.

Now I’m out of money and need to find another way to cool off.

What’s your favourite way to cool off during a heat wave?
