School… Or No?

It’s a tough decision. I will say I would not like to be a politician right now. It seems no matter what decision you make, someone will not be happy. It’s a tough balancing act.

It’s even tougher when you’re talking about children.

I really think most children need to go back to school. They need the interaction with others. The need the friendships. They need the learning.

Sure, the learning part could happen elsewhere, but the interaction and friendships is a bit harder to pull off.

Even the learning part is likely not as easy as it seems. I have seen more than a few people starting to think about home schooling. It sounds easy, but I think it would actually be much harder in actual practice.

I mentioned before, I used to be pretty good at math. That’s until I tried to help my children with their homework many years ago. I quickly discovered I could end up with the right answer, but I had no idea how the method to get to that answer worked. There seemed to be a completely different path being followed. You might end up in the same place, but the route was much different.

But there is the pandemic. Most of us are quite familiar with the fact that children seem to find a way to spread the joy of germs and bacteria on a regular basis. The thought of trying to stop that is laughable.

On the other hand, it would really be nice if the coming generation were properly social adjusted and knew how to deal with others around them.

It’s a tough balancing act. I’m glad I don’t have to make those decisions. I can only wish the best to those who do.
