Bring On The Next Crop

One good thing this year, nature still works. Doesn’t matter that humans have issues to deal with. Nature just keeps doing it’s thing.

Which is comforting. Things just happen, whether we’re ready for them or not.

Various wildflowers have bloomed throughout the year. So have various fruits and vegetables. And it almost seems that they have tasted better this year.

But while I have been eating my way through the season… you know… fiddleheads, strawberries, various new veggies, now tomatoes and blueberries… wild flowers have also been doing their thing.

The lupins seemed quite lovely this year. Now there is a beautiful combination of yellow and pink. The yellow looks very nice, although if it happens that lovely ragweed yellow your sinuses may not agreed. But one of my favourites has suddenly started to flower along roadsides pretty much everywhere… fireweed.

Not only does it look nice, apparently you can eat it. Or dry the leaves and make tea. I never have, but it is supposed to be a good source of various vitamins. It is one of those things I have always intended to learn more about, but instead I have been content to drive by and just look at it.

Maybe I should grab a couple and dry them out. I wonder how the tea would go with a nice crisp apple in a few weeks?
