Walk The Dog Or Go To Jail

I swear I am not making this up.

In Germany, the agriculture minister is introducing a new law next year that you must walk your dog twice a day for a minimum of an hour per walk. Julia Klockner says Germany’s 9.4 million dogs aren’t getting the exercise or stimuli they need.

I’m not sure how they are going to enforce this law but I’m sure they will come up with something.

However it raises a lot of questions. What about when they’re experiencing a heat wave or a day of heavy rain? Do you still have to spend 2 hours outside walking the dog?

Does throwing a ball and running around your own backyard count as a walk?

And the big question, should the government even be involved in things like this? What’s next? Demanding kitty litter boxes be changed every few hours?

As a dog lover, I’m sure the agriculture minister’s heart was in the right place when she came up with this, but I have a feeling the law wasn’t fully thought out.

What’s your take on this?
