It’s one of the signs that fall is closing in. Pumpkin spice is starting to appear.
You might think it would be something like fresh apples or the leaves starting to turn or the cooler temperatures. But those things can happen pretty much any time. Pumpkin spice flavouring has become a sure sign of fall. When combined with those other things, you know for sure.
I have noticed the leaves in some places start to show some colour. Since it’s the final day of August and the poor trees are dying for a drink, that is easy to understand. Even the cooler temperatures I can figure out. The fascination with pumpkin spice I just don’t get.
I like pumpkin. I like pumpkin pie. I just don’t want everything to taste like pumpkin pie.
Although here was one thing that I did enjoy that was made with pumpkin pie spice. Beer nuts. A few nuts, some pumpkin pie spice and something to help the spice stick to the nuts and that was it. I thought they were pretty tasty.
But that was years ago. Before pumpkin spice became a thing. Now, pumpkin spice seems to be everywhere. And for some reason I stopped making the nuts. Maybe it’s time to start again. As long as I didn’t dump all the pumpkin spice in my coffee.
