Okay, honestly, a lot of things confuse me. But this one in particular.
I know a lot of people are looking forward to a day when we can get a vaccine for Covid and be done with it. It sounds great, but I have questions.
First they were saying it would likely be years before we had something that would work. Now they say there are several that look very promising and could be release in the next month.
That’s all well and good, but usually these things are studied very carefully for months, even years, to ensure safety and effectiveness. The speed things are moving really makes me wonder, but okay.
The thing that really has me scratching my head is hearing that the government has been pre-ordering millions of various vaccines from different manufacturers. I get that you have to cover all the basis, but my confusion comes from the numbers. You hear reports of orders of one hundred million doses from this manufacturer and seventy million doses from another.
Last time I checked, there are about thirty-seven million people in the country. Who’s going to be taking all these doses of vaccine? I have heard that in some cases you may need to take two doses. Okay. We’re still well covered. Especially since we know there will be some people who won’t take it.
Don’t get me wrong, I want this to work and hope I can get a shot that will keep me safe, but seeing numbers like this don’t really make me feel exactly confident. It’s almost like they’re admitting they are just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.
I still plan to be near the front of the line. Maybe just not right at the front. Maybe give it a couple weeks (or so) to see what happens.
