VIA Rail Suspends Atlantic Routes Amidst COVID-19 Spikes

VIA Rail Canada announced that they are suspending the Montreal-Halifax route as case numbers in Quebec rise.

Although the Atlantic Bubble has only a few cases of COVID-19, Quebec has seen a surge in cases recently. Since October began Quebec has seen over 1,000 new cases identified daily.

VIA initially stopped service on the route during the initial outbreak of COVID-19 in March.

They had planned to resume service in November but now the company says it is unknown when the route will start up again.

Anyone with tickets impacted will be able to receive a full refund through VIA’s website.
